Cook Time:4 hours
Total Time:4 hours 10 minutes

Equipment

  • 1 slow cooker, 6 quart or larger

Ingredients

  • 8 large Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and sliced; any tart apple works
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter sliced into small pieces

Instructions

  • Place apples in slow cooker. Place the prepared apple slices in the slow cooker.
  • Add sugar and spices. In a small bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the apples and stir until evenly coated.
  • Layer butter on top. Scatter the butter pieces over the top. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To freeze, cool completely and transfer to a freezer bag or container for up to 3 months. Apples will be softer once thawed. This recipe doubles or triples easily - use a larger slow cooker and add 30 minutes to an hour for larger batches.
