Homemade lavender vanilla wax melts made with beeswax and coconut oil in a slow cooker. Simple, natural, and beautifully scented.
Prep Time:5 minutes
Cook Time:1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time:1 hour 35 minutes

Equipment

  • Small slow cooker
  • Heat-safe measuring cup
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Food thermometer
  • Silicone mold

Ingredients

  • 1 cup beeswax pellets about 4.5 ounces
  • ½ cup coconut oil about 2.2 ounces
  • 2 teaspoons lavender fragrance oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essential oil

Instructions

  • Set up the double boiler. Place a small amount of water in the slow cooker and pour the beeswax pellets into the heat-safe measuring cup. Set the measuring cup inside the slow cooker, with the water coming about 1 inch up the sides.
  • Melt the beeswax. Turn the slow cooker on high and let the beeswax pellets melt completely, stirring occasionally. This usually takes about an hour and a half.
  • Add the coconut oil. Once the beeswax is fully melted, stir in the coconut oil and let it melt into the wax.
  • Cool the mixture. Turn the slow cooker down to low and let the mixture cool to about 165°F. A thermometer is helpful here, but not required.
  • Add the fragrance oils. Stir in the lavender fragrance oil and vanilla essential oil. If a film of solid wax forms on top while cooling, just stir it back down to remelt it.
  • Pour into molds. Carefully pour the wax mixture into the silicone mold, filling each cavity evenly.
  • Let them harden. Allow the wax to harden completely before popping the melts out of the mold. If you only have a couple of molds, stick them in the freezer to speed things up.
  • Store and use. Transfer the finished wax melts to a jar for storage. To use, place 1-3 melts in the bowl of your wax warmer and enjoy.

Notes

Keep the mixture below 165°F once the fragrance oils are added. Fragrance oils contain aromatic compounds that evaporate at higher temperatures, which weakens the scent throw of the finished melts. If your wax gets too hot, you can add a little more fragrance oil back in to compensate.
