  • 1 cup butter unsalted
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons hot water
  • 3 cups flour
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Beat butter and sugars 3-5 minutes until lightened in color and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
  • Combine hot water and baking soda. Add to butter mixture and beat until well-combined.
  • Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl. Add 1/3 at a time, mixing on low until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips
  • Drop tablespoon-size balls of dough onto a baking sheet, 12 cookies per sheet. Bake at 350 for 11-13 minutes, until edges are golden brown. Cool on wire rack.

You can add 1 cup of walnuts or pecans with the chocolate chips.
If you don't have unsalted butter, use salted and reduce the salt to 1/2 teaspoon.
