  • Serve. Remove the bag from the freezer. Pour the slushy mixture into cups. If the mixture is too solid, let it sit on the counter for about 15 minutes to soften slightly before serving.

Notes

You can try various types of alcohol in this recipe, such as cinnamon whiskey, most bourbons, and apple brandy. Opt for high-quality apple cider and spiced rum for the best taste.
During cider season, you can get a fresh gallon from the apple orchard, but if not, the shelf-stable variety from the grocery store will work too.
If your cider is very sweet, you might consider adding a bit of lemon juice to balance the flavors.
Even if you love cozy spices, don’t be tempted to add ground cinnamon or cloves to the mixture. They have a gritty consistency.
If you use less alcohol, the cider will freeze more solid and may need a brief thaw on the counter before serving.

More Tips:

You might want to use an extra freezer bag to stop any spills.

Give the bag a little shake a few times while it’s freezing to make sure the slushy texture is even.

Put your serving glasses in the freezer for about 30 minutes before using them so the slushies stay cold for longer.

Prepare these slushies a day ahead of serving to make sure they freeze properly.

Storage Instructions

After making slushies, put any leftovers in the same big freezer bag. Close the bag tightly and store it in the freezer. They’ll stay good for about a week.

When you want the slushies again, leave the bag on the counter for 15 minutes to get soft. Then, shake it a bit and pour it into cups.

If you want to keep the leftover mix in the fridge, it won’t stay slushy but will still taste good. Put it in a sealed container and use it within three days.
