Some days the thought of pulling out a blender or chopping fruit is too much to bear, and that’s when you’ll be glad you have this recipe tucked away. It’s got that perfect tropical flavor with enough rum that you can taste it. And honestly, it’s EXACTLY what you want after dealing with… well, everything. It literally takes 5 minutes to make two drinks, so you and your bestie are all set.

This recipe makes enough for two, but you’ll want to double it for any gathering. Tropical drinks just make people happy. It’s science.

Ingredients and Tools You’ll Need
Serving more than 2? Just double everything and use a half-gallon mason jar or large pitcher. You can use the 2x or 3x buttons in the recipe card at bottom of the post so you don’t have to do any math.

- ½ cup light rum
- ⅓ cup dark rum
- ½ cup pineapple juice
- ⅓ cup mango juice
- ⅓ cup orange juice
- ⅓ cup strawberry nectar – find this in cans in the international foods aisle, or substitute with mango, guava, passion fruit, or peach nectar
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract – optional, or use 1 tablespoon amaretto instead
- Ice
How to Make
Step 1: Start by grabbing all your juices and both rums. I find it easier to have everything lined up than to go hunting for things halfway through. Pour the light rum, dark rum, and all four juices into your mason jar or pitcher. The order doesn’t really matter, but I always do the rums first so I don’t accidentally forget one.

Step 2: Add your lime juice and almond extract if you’re using it. The almond extract is totally optional. If you’re skipping it, no worries.
Step 3: Give everything a really good stir.

Step 4: Add your ice and either shake the jar (fun!) or stir if you’re using a pitcher. The shaking actually mixes it better, but stirring works fine too. Pour over fresh ice in your glasses and you’re done.
Storage Instructions
You can mix everything except the ice up to a day ahead and keep it in the fridge. Just add ice right before serving so it doesn’t get watery, and give it a quick stir.
Invite a few friends over and serve with this with cast iron queso dip and oven-baked wings. They’re both easy, low-prep recipes that will cheer everyone up.
Make It Your Own
First of all, remember ANY tropical nectar will work. Secondly, I don’t do any of these variations because it defeats the extra-easy spirit of the drink. Opening a can? Cutting herbs? No thank you. But if you feel like doing a little extra work, here are some ideas.
- Creamy and coconut: Swap out ⅓ cup of one of the juices for coconut milk – makes it creamy and extra tropical.
- Fresh herbs: Muddle a few mint leaves or basil in the bottom of your glass before adding the punch for a fresh, garden-y note.
- Flavored booze.: Replace the almond extract with a splash of coconut rum or banana liqueur if you’re feeling fancy.
