Canning Tips For Success
Use fresh, ripe produce – not too soft or too firm.
Start with clean, hot jars and new lids. No shortcuts here – your seals need to be perfect.
Follow the recipe exactly. These are all tested for safety, so no making creative adjustments!
Remove air bubbles with a butter knife and leave the right headspace at the top of each jar.
Always wipe jar rims with a clean paper towel before adding lids.
New to canning? Start with jam – it’s the easiest way to learn!
Plan to can in the morning when you’re fresh and focused. Most recipes take about an hour.
Remember, you can start preserving food right away, no matter your experience level. Pick ONE recipe that looks good to you and give it a try. Follow the recipe exactly, make sure everything is clean, and you’ll be fine. The important thing is to START!
