What to Bake for Christmas Morning

Christmas morning isn’t quite perfect without something to pair with the coffee and chaos. Baked ahead or the morning of, these are my favorite baked goods to snack on when we’re lounging around and opening presents.

Berry Sweet Rolls

The color. The creamy frosting. These rolls are to-die-for. Take a break from the standard cinnamon roll and try these with the berry swirl instead. You’ll need a sourdough starter for this recipe.

I use my sourdough discard for these. Use this base recipe to make scones in a number of different ways to please everyone at the house. Fold in chocolate chips, berries, shredded cheese – you name it!

Cranberry Nut Bread

I love the color and crunch of this bread. It’s a pretty easy one to make, but you’ll need to make it the day ahead of time.

This coffee cake has eggnog baked right into the batter. It’s also gorgeous with the glaze. I love to serve it on one of cake platters so it’s on full display.

Shape this the night before, proof overnight, and bake in the morning. It’s a showstopper. The ultimate centerpiece for your Christmas spread.

Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls

Molasses is the key ingredient to get that classic gingerbread flavor. You’ll need to make the dough the day beforehand and can bake them Christmas morning.

This is next-level coffee cake. I love it for Christmas morning and often make extra for sharing a batch with my neighbors.

Blueberry Streusel Muffins

I like to bake these the morning of for the ambiance and incredible smell out of the oven. But of course, you can make them the day ahead of time if you need to.

I prefer to bake these the morning of so the chocolate chips melt as you break into a roll. Truly one of my favorite rolls to pair with a cup of coffee.

Sourdough Morning Buns

Another use for your sourdough starter, and one of my favorites. The cinnamon sugar topping is so easy to prep; even the kids can help you with this one.

Stollen Bread

This one is a little old school, but has a lot of character and will spark up a conversation when you bring it to the table homemade. Dried fruits, nuts, and powdered sugar – Christmas rolled into one bite!

Puff Pastry Sticky Buns

Use this recipe when you’re in a time crunch. Puff pastry is the trick here to make these sticky buns in less than an hour. Make them the night before or the morning of; either way, they’re super quick.

Cinnamon Sugar Quick Bread

One bowl and just over an hour is all you need for this recipe. You’ll use some of your sourdough discard for this one. It’s a great last-minute bake.

It’s a commitment, but I recommend giving this Italian Christmas classic a try at least once. We like to share the whole loaf and break it off in pieces and pat ourselves on the back for a baking success.

Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

These rolls require an overnight rise, but it makes Christmas morning so much easier. All you need to do is bake and then spread on my favorite part of this recipe – cream cheese frosting.

Bread Machine Coffee Cake

Let the machine do the work here. All you need to do is worry about the glaze that goes on at the end. It’s pretty foolproof and can be working in the background while you do other Christmas Day prep.

Pull-Apart Apple Pie Bread

No sourdough starter needed here, as this recipe uses yeast. However, it does need some resting and rising time, so make this bread the day before.

Cream Cheese Danish Braid

Another one that’s here for the flavor AND the looks. The braid is so pretty, and it looks great on the breakfast table. It takes about two hours to make, so I’d make it the night before.

Just like what we used to have as kids – but so much better. Another bread that does need to rise, so make it the day before. We love slathering on a big wad of salted butter.

This bread pairs perfectly with a hot cup of tea, so I like to add it for the tea lovers. It adds a little refreshing and bright bite to the table.
